Front View of Yogolicious Frozen Yogurt!

Fro-yo girl here. Yogolicious Los Banos is one of three locations in Central California. The other two are in Atwater and Turlock. It’s nice to see that a town as small as Los Banos has a new self-serve frozen yogurt shop to call its own. The self-serve frozen yogurt and toppings are 39 cents an ounce.

Yogolicious certainly offers plenty of variety in toppings and frozen yogurt. I counted over 20 syrups (including warm ones), chilled fruit toppings, popping boba, mochi, over 40 dry toppings (nuts, candy, cookies, coconut, marshmallows, graham cracker crust, cereal), cookie dough, cheesecake bites, whipped cream and more.

The fourteen flavors of self-serve fro-yo included no sugar added varieties, a tart flavor, a sorbet and even a soft serve gelato. Each machine had three labels, one for each flavor and one for the swirled flavor (e.g., pineapple + coconut = pina colada).

I found the frozen yogurt flavors to be hit or miss with some too icy (cappuccino) and others nice and creamy (cookies n’ cream). The cappuccino had an off-putting bitterness to it. The original tart was quite decent though, mildly tangy, creamy, smooth and yet refreshing.

Yogolicious was clean and spacious. It looks like a fairly typical frozen yogurt shop inside with a tiled wall, pleasant enough but not distinctive. You can find sample cups at the register and hand sanitizer by the frozen yogurt cups.

Swirl, San Anselmo, CA

Swirl welcomes you with open arms or doors that is.

Fro-yo girl here. Swirl San Anselmo is the second location for Swirl. The first location is located in nearby Mill Valley. The shop has a modern, cheerful, family friendly feel, consistent with what you’d expect for Marin County. The interior is painted blue and green and the tables and chairs are white. Flat screen TVs show rotating pictures of kids with their frozen yogurt.

There are 10 self-serve frozen yogurt flavors a day. They offer flavors for everyone, including at least one tart flavor, one organic flavor, one no sugar added flavor and one non-dairy option. The toppings bar is better than average and includes very fresh looking chilled fruit, mochi balls, nuts, candy, cereal, syrups, cookie dough, etc. Some unusual toppings included mini cinnamon rolls, full size chocolate chip cookies, gumballs and Hot Tamales. It’s priced at 47 cents an ounce which is expensive but what you’d expect for Marin County.

I was offered only one sample cup so I tried the wild berry tart. The texture was too soft and too icy. A better frozen yogurt would have a firmer, creamier texture and a stronger real yogurt flavor. It was nice to see an organic frozen yogurt option, interesting toppings, and such fresh looking fruit but the frozen yogurt needs to be smoother, firmer and less icy.

YooGool Yogurt & Milk Tea, San Jose, CA

Front View of YooGool Yogurt & Milk Tea!

Fro-yo girl here. Evergreen Village Square was built deep in a new residential neighborhood in San Jose. It’s interesting that they have tried to recreate an old fashioned setting (village square). There are restaurants, a grocery store, cleaners, dentist, spa, pharmacy and almost everything you’d need. And yes, there’s a frozen yogurt and milk tea shop, YooGool.

There are 8 self-serve fro-yo flavors a day and about 40 toppings for 35 cents an ounce. Ask for sample cups at the register. It felt like there were fewer toppings than average but I think that’s because some compartments were empty, strawberries were in more than one compartment, they have an abundance of different jellies and juice poppers (aka popping boba), and many of the dry toppings (e.g., granola, nuts, sprinkles, chips, cereal, candy) are in tiny shakers. The shakers probably keep the toppings fresher and more sanitary. They had plain white mochi and colored mochi.

The start of all the yummy frozen yogurt.

One frozen yogurt flavor wasn’t available and I’m told that it was tart. They didn’t have any tart fro-yo flavors during my visit so that was disappointing. They had two no sugar added flavors. I tried two fruity sweet flavors (Georgia peach, Hawaiian pineapple) both of which were creamy but not fruity and natural enough. The French vanilla fro-yo was thick, creamy and dense, much like a good vanilla soft serve.

YooGool has the look and feel of your standard frozen yogurt shop. There isn’t much décor but they do have the tile you expect to see at a frozen yogurt shop. The brown tile isn’t attractive and with the brown wood floor, the overall impression is that the shop is very, very brown. There’s a big flatscreen TV, restroom, and free wi-fi. This is YooGool’s only location.
